Thank you for visiting my website. I appreciate your interest in our citizen Legislature.

Here, you can find information about work I am doing in the Legislature on behalf of the 15th District and Washington state.

My priorities include: strengthening public safety laws to make the Yakima region and our state safer, encouraging water storage, address our housing crisis, and provide affordable health care choices. I am also focused on state spending and the operating budget. As consumers deal with unprecedented inflation and high prices of goods and services, the state must set an example of living within its means and create a sustainable spending plan.

Your feedback and input are important to me as make decisions critical for the success of our district and state. I urge you to contact me with any questions, concerns, or comments you may have to share. I am honored and privileged to serve and represent the great people of the 15th District.

My Priorities

Advocating for tax relief

When I came into office in 1999 our state budget was about $20.5 billion. We have more than tripled our spending in about 24 years, and it has more than doubled since Gov. Inslee took office. Despite the record spending and the highest inflation we have seen in decades, no tax relief was provided in the 2022 session. My colleagues and I have advocated for such things as property tax relief, sales tax relief and Working Families Tax Credit to provide some measure of life affordability.

Prioritizing public safety

Republicans offered solutions and provided critical votes in addressing the troubling aspects of the policing legislation passed in 2021 that placed unrealistic standards on law enforcement officials. Reinstating vehicular pursuits when there is reasonable suspicion for arrests must be a priority. On a local level I was to get a proviso in the budget that allows the Department of Commerce to contract with nonprofit organizations in the Yakima Valley to form a community consortium to develop and implement strategies for the prevention of gang violence in Yakima County.

Holding state agencies accountable and enacting emergency powers reform

The governor and his Washington state agencies must be held accountable for their failures. Whether it is cost overruns at the WSDOT or the Employment Security Department's mishandling the fraud cases during the pandemic, public trust must be restored by increasing oversight and implementing reforms with the Legislature's input. The executive branch of our government has operated Washington state under one-person rule and under a state of emergency. Lawmakers must have more input as our state government was not intended to operate this way.
