Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The Legislature is back in session and I am once again working in Olympia on your behalf. It is an honor to know that you have placed your faith in me to represent you, our communities and our shared values. Serving you is something I believe in and never take for granted.
After working the last few years to help the state navigate education funding and helping to hold the line on tax increases as the ranking member on the House Appropriations Committee, I have been asked to take the lead on agriculture issues. My colleagues selected me to be the ranking member on the House Rural Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.
It was an honor to be part of the state budget negotiations the past few years. I believe my time spent as a budget leader helped lead to better, more sustainable state budgets and I helped lead the charge against new, massive tax increases. However, I am excited to be back working diligently on agriculture and rural economic development issues. Those of you who know me well know that I believe agriculture is essential for the future of our region.
Stay tuned for further updates from me throughout the legislative session. Please let me know what you think are the most important issues affecting you, your family and our communities. I look forward to hearing from you.
Governor's State of the State Address
The governor recently gave his State of the State address where he outlined his proposals to increase state spending, raise taxes and implement an aggressive environmental agenda. I continue to believe the state should live within its means. With nearly $4 billion more in state tax collections coming in this next biennium, there is no need for Inslee's $3.7 billion tax increase proposal.

If you would like to watch the Republican response, given by 7th District Rep. Jacquelin Maycumber, click here. Rep. Maycumber focused much of her speech on those paying the bills for state government.
You can also subscribe to our Capitol Buzz email. This is a daily compilation of news stories around the state focused on state government, politics, legislative activities and important issues.
As always, if you have a question or concern about YOUR state government, please let me know. I'm here to serve you and work on your behalf. Thank you for the honor of serving, and I hope to hear from you soon.
