Harrah student travels to Olympia to serve as page

Junior Angelique Sohappy, a White Swan High School student, paged in the state House of Representatives Feb. 21-26. She was sponsored by her 15th District state representative Bruce Chandler.

Representative Chandler and Page: Angelique Sohappy “What Angelique learned in just a week will stay with her for years to come,” said Chandler, R-Granger. “I hope her time here will encourage her to get involved in government and encourage others to be engaged citizens.”

During her week in Olympia, Sohappy attended page school daily to understand the operations and actions of the Legislature. At the end of the week, Sohappy wrote and promoted a mock bill addressing a minimum age for hunting.

The 16-year-old also served an important role in the Legislature delivering documents to legislators and staff on the floor of the House and throughout the capitol campus.

Each week, students 14- to 16-years-old from across the state serve in the legislative page program. They must have a legislative member as a sponsor, as well as permission from their school and parents. To learn more about the page program, visit the Web site.
