Yakima student serves as House page in Olympia

Haley Hargreaves traveled to Olympia to page in the House of Representatives Feb 21-25. Hargreaves, 16, was sponsored by 15th District Rep. Bruce Chandler. The student is an A.C. Davis High School 9th-grader and the daughter of Cindy and David Hargreaves of Yakima.

Each day, Hargreaves attended page school to learn about the legislative process. As part of her duties, she distributed documents and notes to lawmakers and staff on the House floor, as well as around the Capitol campus.

“It has been great having Haley in Olympia this week serving as a page,” said Chandler, R-Granger. “I'm glad students like Haley have the opportunity to participate in the legislative process. I hope she continues pursuing her interest in public service.”

Each week, students 14- to 16-years-old from across the state serve in the legislative page program. They must have a legislative member as a sponsor, as well as permission from their schools and parents. To learn more about the page program, visit the Web site.
