Avanti High School student pages in House of Representatives

Freshman Grace Ordos, an Avanti High School student in Olympia, paged in the state House of Representatives April 11-15. She was sponsored by 15th District state Rep. Bruce Chandler. Grace is the daughter of Karen and Richard Ordos of Olympia.

“I was happy to sponsor Grace, even though she is not in my district – we try to accommodate every student who qualifies to be a page so they have the opportunity,” said Chandler, R-Granger. “It is a great way for young people to get involved in their government and I hope Grace learned a lot.”

During her week in Olympia, Ordos attended page school daily to understand the operations and actions of the Legislature. At the end of the week, Ordos wrote and promoted a mock bill addressing abortion education. The 15-year-old also served an important role in the Legislature delivering documents to legislators and staff on the floor of the House and throughout the capitol campus.

Each week during the legislative session, students 14- to 16-years-old from across the state serve in the legislative page program. They must have a legislative member as a sponsor, as well as permission from their school and parents. To learn more about and apply for the page program, visit the Web site.
